Both my Doctor and myself know that there is very little they can do about my chronic pancreatitis with its occasional acute flare-ups.  So we have come to an understanding.

As long as the pain is bearable and I can treat it with the percosets that I am prescribed for pain, I treat myself from home.  If I get a mild flare-up I’ll stop eating for a few days to let it cool down and usually spend a lot of time taking it easy and letting my body get better.

But if the pain gets to be enough that the meds aren’t covering it we have agreed that I will head for the Emergency Room for better pain meds and closer observation.

We have come to this agreeement because I hate hospitals, always have, and the last thing that I want to do is go in if I don’t have to.  Of course I always keep my doctor apprised and in the loop but why waste money and go to the hospital if I don’t have to?
