There are only a few studies that have been done regarding whether people who are sero-positive with HIV are more susceptable to pancreatitis. Some studies suggest that this is true while other don’t find the same results.
What is agreed is the people who are HIV+ have significant differences from the general population. Among those that are HIV+ there is a higher frequency of medication-associated pancreatitis along with a lower frequency of gallstone pancreatitis. In HIV+ patients there are also additional symptoms that are caused by the underlying immunosuppression.
Those that are HIV+ are also more likely to have a more severe hospital course.
