One of the side affects of pancreatitis is the extreme pain that it causes. It can be so painful that it can be almost impossible to deal with. It can make it impossible to live a normal life even as it damages your pancreas.
During smaller flare-ups I can get by with a few percocet. I’ll stay away from food and drink for a few days and take the percocet when I need to for pain.
When the flare up is more major I end up in the hospital for a few days so I can get stronger pain meds. It feel like when I first started to suffer from pancreatitis I was able to stand the pain more but as the disease progresses I feel it more. I’ve been told by some doctors that as the pancreas becomes more damaged I’ll feel less pain because there is less of it to hurt but my experiences so fat haven’t proven that correct.
The thing to remember is that you need to minimize the flare-ups and start the cooling down of the pancreas as soon as they do happen. The worse and the longer the flare-up the more damage to your pancreas.
